Super D Matsuri 2016

The Spirit of Grassroots Drifting

The event held this weekend on October 9th, 2016, was what many call one of the greatest grassroots drift event. Super D was put together by those whom actually care about the grassroots level scene for drifters. The people involved in making this amazing event into a reality was Wolfreign Motors along with Julian Jacobs of Animal Style and the rest of his team.

There was also of course many sponsors that helped make this happen. This includes: FATLACE, Origin Labo., STANCE Suspension, Koyorad, Zestino Tyres, and many more. Lets of course not forget about the invite only drivers who made it out and put a great show for the spectators. Drift teams like Gold Star made an appearance as well as No Limit Set and the team representing Parts Shop Max USA just to name a few. Also we had the pleasure of seeing one of the most notorious drifters from Japan live: Mr. Naoki Nakamura!

That day there were so many smiles and laughs seen from spectators and drivers. It seemed like all the spectators and drivers alike where high off of the constant feeling of pure happiness in the air. It was an event filled with nothing but good and positive vibes.

Memories Captured

Taking our first steps into the event we already knew it was going to be an amazing day. Everywhere you walked you were surrounded by beautiful drift machines.

sd5

Never have we seen a JZ powered RWD Subaru. It was drift ready and actually drove the event! Was definitely a sight to see.

This two-tone S13 Coupe was simply stunning. It is a car we have always seen around via digital media but to see it in person was amazing. The owner was kind enough to let us snap a few pictures. Best two-tone coupe that actually gets sideways!

Guess who else came to party!? That’s right! The super awesome group of guys ShaDynasty!

sd13

BEAMS BEAMS BEAMS!

sd14

To see these guys get down and dirty live just makes you smile. They put in work at the track as a team with their old school drift machines. And they do it well.

sd15

sd11

Villains. You always knew when they were up at the track because you can just hear the beast of an engine in the FD. Like many teams here their tandems were always well executed. These “villains” are actually pretty good.

This is a team that just makes us think of home. SoCal locals team No Limit Set are an awesome bunch that are no strangers to a fun time. They are all actually extremely mellow people. It must be Ernie’s charisma (AKA Mr. Fred Lump Lump). Make sure you check out their sponsor as well Zestino Tyres!

We can never get over how beautiful Richard’s car is. Keep it up buddy.

sd37

These guys put a smile on our face. They don’t only make amazing quality parts but they are people that are actually part of the scene. Parts Shop MAX owner and his team members showed up and represented well. Skillful drivers indeed.

sd38

Oh and guess who tagged along? Mr. Powers himself! Pro that never turned his back on his roots. Glad we got to see him live here at a local event.

sd39

sd32

Team BlackMoon also showed up to this sweet event. These two Kouki S14s were cars we only saw in places like Zilvia. As a fan of the team we were happy to see them in person and capture a few shots.

sd29

That BN kit just WORKS for the S14 Kouki. Well executed indeed.

And of course we had many other familiar faces present that day. Like the team members of Tandem Of Die: Justin Shreeve and Joe Ayala. This was a real treat. We are mega fans of the team. Super stylish and skilled duo. Ever since we saw their video TANDEM OF DIE | 2012 Year-End Video we became followers. Shout outs to you Mr. Shreeve!

Yet another one of those super mellow dudes we are glad to call our friend showed up as well. Jose’s car is by far one of our favorite S14 Koukis. Does not only look the part he actually drifts it at places like Grange and Balcony. Don’t believe so? See it yourself here in a video by the heavily followed channel SoCalSidewayZ LA: SoCal NorCal Exchange 😉

When we first got to the event this was one of those cars that instantly got our attention. We just had to snap a quick picture. And guess what? He actually got sideways that day at Super D. Super good driver as well. A pleasure watching him get down.

Formula Drift Pro and STANCE Suspension driver Forrest Wang also made an appearance and had a little tandem fun with the boys from Animal Style that day. This also included tandems with other drivers like Ryan Litteral and also Naoki Nakamura. What a melting pot right? Was definitely a sight to see.

After following them for a very long time and viewing many videos of them all over the internet we had the pleasure of finally seeing the now famous Animal Style drift team. Seeing these cars in person was awesome. But seeing them get sideways in live was an even better experience. The style in driving they have is almost unique here in the states. They carry heavily influenced JP style in looks and driving so it is no wonder why they share a friendship with Mr. Nakamura.

Getting Sideways at Super D

sd55

Watching the event live was a great experience. The spectators were full of excitement and all the drivers were super awesome. It is amazing what our grassroots community is capable of.

sd57

Two wild Gold Star drivers appeared!

sd58

Now we know what you are thinking. Where are all the sideways shots!? Well they are all on video! 😉

Still want to see more? Stay tuned we are working on putting together a full video of everything we managed to capture on that day!

More Super D Please

Super D was definitely an experience we will never forget. It is great seeing lately that slowly but surely the essence of grassroots drifting is becoming louder and louder and it’s all thanks to events like this. It helped us maintain faith and the fire we have burning inside knowing that the grassroots drift scene is alive and well. Let us move on with positive vibes and to keep the good times coming with more events like this.

As always be sure to share the pictures, video, and the blog!
